CMOS Current Mode Adders

چکیده
We evaluated the performance of three CMOS current-mode, multivalued adder circuits in terms of area (reduced interconnect), speed, and power consumption and compared them to their binary, voltagemode counterparts. We present the simulation results of these circuits, and one new circuit which has fewer transistors than any voltage-mode full adder. Our results, however, show that while current-mode, multivalued circuits can be very compact, they are slower and consume an order of magnitude more power than conventional binary, voltage-mode implementations.

Performance of CMOS Current Mode Full Adders
We present the performance of three different multivalued current mode 1-bit adders. These circuits have been simulated with the electrical parameters of a standard 1.2 μm CMOS technology. The performance of a binary voltage mode 1-bit adder is also presented. The binary version uses twice more transistors comparing with multivalued ones, but it is two or three times faster. Multivalued version...
متن کاملEvaluating Ternary Adders using a hybrid Memristor / CMOS approach
This paper investigates the potentials of using a hybrid memristor CMOS technology, called MeMOS, for the realisation of ternary adders. Ternary adders exploit the qualitative advantage of multi-value storage capability of memristors compared to conventional CMOS flip-flops storing only binary values in one cell. Furthermore they carry out an addition in O(1) and are therefore considered. The M...
متن کاملAn Analysis of MOS Current Mode Logic for Low Power and High Performance Digital Logic
In this work, MOS Current Mode Logic (MCML) is analyzed for application to low power, mixed signal environments. A small MCML cell library is developed and optimized for several different performance requirements. The cells are then applied to the generation of ripple adders and piplelined CORDIC structures and compared with equivalent CMOS circuits. MCML CORDICs are designed which can operate ...
متن کاملCML Current Mode Full Adders for 2.5-V Power Supply
We present the basic structure and performance of CML current mode full adders, that are used as Carry Save Adders (CSA) in combinatorial multipliers. A 1.2 μm BiCMOS technology is used for simulations but the schematic assumes a 2.5-V power supply. Compared with binary voltage mode CSAs, the multivalued current mode CSAs have chip area and power dissipation advantage, but speed disadvantage. T...
متن کاملCompact non-binary fast adders using single-electron devices
This paper proposes compact adders that are based on non-binary redundant number systems and single-electron (SE) devices. The adders use the number of single electrons to represent discrete multiple-valued logic state and manipulate single electrons to perform arithmetic operations. These adders have fast speed and are referred as fast adders. We develop a family of SE transfer circuits based ...
